Cassie's Emotional Confession Takes Centre Stage as Ross Faces Deadly Threat in Coronation Street

Vile Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) has closed in on Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) in Coronation Street.

It’s no secret that Sweeney is leaving the soap soon, meaning that her character’s exit is imminent. ITV confirmed earlier this year that the actress would be leaving the cobbles for good after nearly three years.

Sweeney will be leaving the show to join the cast of the UK and Ireland tour of Annie to play Miss Hannigan

A Coronation Street spokesperson told Radio Times: “We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.

“Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.”

Earlier this month, amid relationship issues with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), Cassie wandered off to the Chariot Square Hotel.

She began knocking back the vodka when a man (Ian Burfield) approached the bar, and she invited him to join her.

Despite spending the afternoon together, the man explained that he wasn’t prepared to head up to her room to continue their drinking. He accused her of being a sex worker, and made his way to his own quarters.

She was disheartened, but upon checking the bill, noticed a name she recognised – Ross Wilkes.

Just days later he showed up in Weatherfield and revealed himself to be Tyrone Dobbs’s (Alan Halsall) father. Cassie made it clear that she wanted him to play no part in their son’s life, and on countless occasions, has warned that he isn’t to be trusted.

Tensions reached boiling point in today’s episode. Cassie was less than enthused to be invited along to Ross’s birthday celebrations, and as her family all celebrated how wonderful it was to have him in their lives, she decided to come clean.

She tearfully admitted that Ross had paid to have sex with her – when she was just 15 years old.

Before he had opportunity to speak, Ross was ordered out of the house by Tyrone, who assured his mum that he loved her and that he saw no fault in her deciding to keep this quiet.

Meanwhile, Ross’s new flame Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) was utterly sickened to learn that she’d been sleeping with a paedophile. She said that absolutely nothing could justify what he did, though Ross was insistent that he had no idea that Cassie was a minor.

When Tyrone arrived, he was conflicted. He saw that his dad was willing to own up to his mistakes, and was prepared to give him a second chance.

Returning to No. 9, Ross made out that he was ashamed of himself and that he was willing to leave forever if Cassie didn’t want him there. She begrudging accepted his apology for Tyrone’s sake, but matters were about to turn a lot more sinister.

Once alone, Ross pinned Cassie to the wall and warned that should she ever try and drive a wedge between him and Tyrone, he’d kill her.
