Coronation Street has issued an update on Liz McDonald and Andy McDonald after Jim McDonald’s death on Monday’s episode

Coronation Street dropped a massive bombshell on Monday’s instalment as viewers discovered that Jim McDonald had passed away.
Recently, Steve McDonald received the devastating news that his father, Jim, had been hospitalised with little hope of recovery. In Monday’s episode, now streaming on ITV X, Steve was informed of his father’s death.
The tragic revelation came at an inopportune moment, just as Steve’s partner, Cassie Plummer, was preparing to pop the question. Before Steve could turn to witness Cassie’s heartfelt proposal, his mobile rang with the heartbreaking news about his dad.
This follows Coronation Street legend Charlie Lawson addressing speculation that his character Jim was facing the axe.
Fresh spoilers have now emerged detailing the fallout from this shocking death, with updates concerning Liz McDonald and Andy McDonald, reports the Daily Star.

Jim’s final appearance on the famous street was back in 2018, when he departed after conning his former wife Liz, portrayed by Beverley Callard.
Long-time viewers will remember Jim featured in numerous dramatic plotlines throughout the years, including being temporarily paralysed after tumbling from scaffolding during an altercation with Steve.
Additional storylines saw Jim handed an eight-year prison sentence for the manslaughter of drug dealer Jez Quigley, who had assaulted Steve, plus his subsequent return to jail following an armed robbery.
Meanwhile, Jim’s former spouse Liz was last spotted on the cobbles in 2020, whilst their son Andy, portrayed by Nicholas Cochrane, hasn’t been seen in Weatherfield since 2009. Devoted soap fans had their fingers crossed that Liz and Andy might make a comeback for the funeral scenes.
Alas, fresh spoilers have dashed those hopes, confirming their absence. Next week’s episodes will see Steve feeling apprehensive as he attends Jim’s funeral, with the revelation that neither Liz nor Andy will be present – having cut ties with Jim years ago.
Viewers are bound to be disappointed not to witness these beloved characters gracing the cobbles once more, having recently voiced their wishes for their return.
Over on Twitter, now rebranded as X, one viewer pleaded: “An Andy McDonald mention…. Bring him back! #CoronationStreet#Corrie @itvcorrie”, whilst another account echoed: “Bring back andy #corrie” and a third chimed in: “They need to bring in some of Jim’s side of the family or have Steve’s twin Andy return with his family. @itvcorrie #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”
