Emmerdale viewers reckon Jacob Gallagher’s boss Doctor Caitlin Todd could become a romantic partner for one of the village residents.
Trainee Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) is finding work difficult in the ITV soap as his supervisor has been placing him under considerable stress at the hospital, highlighting trivial mistakes and creating an uneasy atmosphere.
It was announced earlier this year that actress Caroline Harker is returning to her role as Doctor Todd for a gripping new storyline examining workplace harassment and power imbalances.
Discussing her comeback, Caroline said: “I’m delighted to be back at Emmerdale for a longer stint playing Doctor Todd.
“She’s a complex character and from what I’ve been told so far, quite a tricky one for Jacob to navigate. Workplace bullying is commonplace, and it will be interesting to see it brought to our screens in a serial drama such as Emmerdale.”
Whilst certain viewers anticipate an unexpected romance between Dr Todd and Jacob, who is married to Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), others suspect Dr Todd might be a potential romantic partner for villager Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson).
One person posted: “I think Dr Todd is going to be Mary’s next love interest.”
Another added: “Dr thingy going to be Mary’s next squeeze….? #emmerdale.”
A third said: “Mary going to be with the doctor?”.
Fans will recall that Mary has been experiencing a period of late-life self-discovery, characterised by substantial emotional pain and a recent devastating revelation. Since revealing she was a lesbian to her daughter Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) shortly after arriving in the village in 2022, she has faced a series of turbulent relationships and deception.
Mary’s first significant romance following her coming out was with Faye Helders (Jane Gurnett), whom she encountered on a dating app. The relationship ended disastrously when Faye was unmasked as a fraudster who swindled money from Mary and subsequently released revenge porn featuring her.
She later fell deeply for Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), which led to a tangled love triangle involving Suzy’s on-off partner Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick).
Shortly before Suzy’s tragic death in a limousine crash in February last year, she confessed her love for Mary and revealed her intention to leave Vanessa for her.
Viewers will need to tune in to discover whether romance is on the horizon for Dr Todd and Mary.
