Former Emmerdale star Bhasker Patel was reunited with his co-star Rebecca Sarker as she visited him in New York City amid his Broadway role
Former Emmerdale actor Bhasker Patel has enjoyed a heartwarming reunion with his previous co-star Rebecca Sarker last week.
The 69 year old performer portrayed Rishi Sharma on the ITV drama from 2011 to 2023, though his character met a tragic end when he tumbled down stairs and perished alone, missing his son Jai’s wedding ceremony, with Chris Bisson playing the role.
Since departing the ITV drama, Bhasker’s professional journey has flourished with appearances in productions including Sky Peals and Sumotherhood, alongside television programmes Matopulas and the drama Never Had a Chance.
The actor has now secured a part in the Broadway production Oedipus at Studio 54 in New York City, taking on the role of Corin. This represents his Broadway debut.
To mark this achievement, Bhasker’s former Emmerdale colleague Rebecca, aged 50, who portrays Manpreet Sharma – her character having previously been wed to Rishi on the ITV drama – travelled to New York City to show her support.
Posting on Instagram, Rebecca, 50, uploaded several photographs with Bhasker alongside the Oedipus Broadway signage, writing: “What a guy! What a show! What a city! @bhaskerpatel @oedipusbway @studio54.nyc” accompanied by heart emojis.
Additionally, Bhasker posted about the reunion on his personal Instagram profile, disclosing that Rebecca had brought him Jammie Dodgers from the UK.
The performer wrote: “Irresistible Jammie Dodgers all the way from UK and from #mydearestfriend @rebeccasarker #manpreetsharma of @emmerdale @itv @itvxofficial.
“Now who would refuse such present delivered personally, of course! #thankyou #thankyou #oedipus Already started! #notstopping End is the beginning!”.
In the photographs, Bhasker appeared virtually unrecognisable from his Emmerdale character Rishi as he displayed a complete grey beard in contrast to Rishi’s smooth-shaven appearance.
Reacting in the comments section, one individual remarked: “Aaah, such cute pics! Glad you’re having such a great time in NYC!” whilst another account posted: “Miss you in Emmerdale, Bhasker, but it seems you’re having the best time”.
Additionally, someone else penned: “I’m thrilled Bhasker has proved beyond doubt there is life after E!” whilst a separate follower commented: “The best duo!”.
Meanwhile, Kevin Mathurin, who portrays Charles Anderson on Emmerdale, remarked: “Bhasker on Broadway. I love it.”
Whilst Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana, who played Suni Sharma, contributed: “Awww l love this” with heart emojis.
